Dandy Warhols Guitarist Spreads Wings on Solo Debut
Nov. 24, 2010 – Written by Chrissy Mauck
Dandy Warhols guitarist Pete Holmström had just landed in Brisbane, Australia, after a 13-hour flight when Fender News caught up with him; a fitting scene setter for the ensuing discussion about his solo debut Pete International Airport, a meandering atmospheric-vibed album released in late September.
Interestingly, his solo odyssey began in 1997, 13 years ago.
“I started coming up with some of the songs back in ’97; I just never found the right place for them,” he shares. “Some of them didn’t work with the band’s views and other ones, I started another band to try to do the songs and that didn’t work out. So I just ended up doing them on my own, which is something I needed to do as I was growing as a musician and a songwriter. To do it completely on my own where nobody else really had the final say was a good challenge to actually go up against.”
